Suzannah Avery, of Battle Creek, is the recipient of a $5,000 Folds of Honor Foundation higher education scholarship provided by beer distributor Atlas Sales Inc. Suzannah is a senior at Central Michigan University and the daughter of a Marine Corps Reserve gunnery sergeant who passed away in April of 2015.
“This donation is our way of saying thank you to veterans and their families, and honoring the enormous sacrifices they make for our freedom,” said Bud Dunn, president of Atlas Sales Inc. “We pride ourselves in giving back to the Battle Creek community and could think of no better way to do that than supporting Suzannah’s studies in the field of neuroscience.”
The Folds of Honor Foundation provides educational scholarships and other assistance to the children and spouses of military service men and women who were killed or disabled in the line of duty. Suzannah’s father Nicholas Avery was a gunnery sergeant deployed in both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Gunnery Sergeant Avery passed away on April 26, 2015.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of Atlas Sales Inc.,” said Major Dan Rooney, founder of Folds of Honor. “Providing these scholarships means giving our military families the support they deserve and is another important way we honor our military families.”
This is the second time Suzannah has received a Folds of Honor Scholarship provided through a donation from Atlas Sales Inc.
